    Wedding Post

June 22nd 2019 and the week leading up to, were absolutely magical. Somehow we managed to host roughly 300 people on our 5 acres in Cedar. Here are the pictures I have collected from various contributors to show you how the day went. By organizing it this way (on my own site), I am creating an online keepsake. I have added commentary and captions below the photos.

Let me just say, that a lot of people came together and helped make everything go off without a hitch. My sincere thanks are for those people and to all the people who came to share in the festivities on that day.

Here is a link to the YouTube video of the ceremony

Our friend, Timofey commissioned the backdrop for our altar. It is a hand-embroidered tapestry from a couple of Shipibo artisans. The threads depict many different significant plants. Tima actually arrived a week prior to the festivities. He was an enormous help. Thanks, Tima!
Ian George came through with some amazing light displays. He arrived the night before and set everything up while we were all at dinner. Too bad I didn’t get any pictures of that, but there were roughly 80 people who went to the Legion in Ladysmith for a Meet-and-Greet dinner that Pat’s Dad, Randy hosted.
Our friend, Jess, created two pinatas of our heads. Evidently they were too tempting for all the kids around, because they got smashed in an impromptu re-enactment of sugar-addled Lord of the Flies. Apparently it was a brutal free-for-all.
Bean bag toss tournament for gift certificates to Gabriel’s, The Vault, Long and McQuade, and Funk Your Fashion
    Paint-your-own-face and mask-making table
Jess and Jesse smooch by the bomboniere table. Gifts for guests included pots of succulents, mixtape CD’s, books, flowers, bubbles, bookmarks, and artwork
One of the two food trucks: VI Pizza and their mobile wood fire pizza oven. I highly recommend!
Eamon’s great wedding gift: a Kombucha Bar!
Sweet Pete jams with the kids for a moment.
Ice block excavation station! I made a giant ice block full of random toys. With little hammers and spray bottles, the kids made quick work of it. Note, the low-hanging unattended pinatas.
The ceremony begins! See a link at the top of the page to the YouTube video I made for Kevin.
Fox, bummed he didn”t get any pinata candy.
Jesse Clark is one of Pat’s oldest pals. What he said during this ceremony was so touching and pertinent! I couldn’t imagine anyone else doing a better job. Thank you, Jesse! We value your incredible wisdom.
June went with Grandma for about two seconds
    Decorated Wilma
We competed in Rock Paper Scissors to see who would deliver their vows first. It got a little ridiculous when Pat and I kept choosing the same weapons and tied the game 7 tries in a row. Telepathy? Dude is always in my head.
Asking Fox to bring the rings
Made by our friend, Darren from Alchemy Adornment, our wedding bands are matching rose gold with a hammered petina.
My mom, Helena, and Nana Joan
There’s Pat’s brother, Andy, their mom, Bonnie, and my Aunt Sherry.
    Hugging my new dad.
TH’US, Th’greatest rockers in my humble opinion.
    Pizza and Taco time!
    Best bartenders in the wild

    Fully stocked potluck snack bar
    The Eleven Twelves
Pat does a keg stand, commando, in a kilt.
    Party crashers
Why sleep when you can play all night (and all morning?)
June slept here for 5 hours. PERF.

  • Summer’s End Music Mix, and a Honey Story

On the Sweet and Sour Variety Hour: half music, half talking this week. Music in the first half, and in the second half, an episode from Deconstructing Dinner about honey labelling in Canada. Riveting!

Here is the file, airing live to communities next to the Salish Sea on CHLY 101.7FM on Wednesday August 28th, 2019 at 8AM PST.

    Music Selections:

    LA Priest – Occasion
    A Certain Ratio – Lucinda
    Dan Reeder – Clean Elvis
    Field Music – Let’s Write a Book
Mr. Twin Sister – Meet the Frownies
Bones and Beeker – Heartbroken in Love
    LA Priest – Oino
    Essential Logic – Brute Fury
    Jon Steinman’s Deconstructing Dinner: Honey
    Mariah Carey – Honey

Honey – one of the most natural foods. In the supermarket, honey is found labelled as coming from clover, buckwheat, alfalfa or maybe orange blossom. The label might just read ‘honey’ without any indication of its source of nectar. But is the nectar source even important to those of us wishing to become more conscientious eaters? As Deconstructing Dinner has discovered, there is a curiosity surrounding honey – a curiosity, which has rarely, if ever, been spoken…. until now!

It turns out, in Canada, 80% of all the honey produced in the country is from the nectar of canola – yet, nowhere on the grocery store shelves do we ever see honey labelled as “canola honey”. And so the question becomes – just where is all that canola honey ending up?
