Independent Woman About the World

CHLY 101.7FM is like your badass next-door neighbour who unabashedly plays their music too loud and who you refer to in times of crises for advice. You switch to it when the overbearing snarky commercials of the other radio stations become too much to handle. It is at times your sonic refuge, and at other times a quaint slice of your community you can tip your head to.

The truth of the matter is that CHLY doesn’t suckle at the commercial radio teat to bolster its survival. It’s an independent woman about the world, making the ends meet where she can! Unsullied and raw, she tells it like it is, because she answers to No Man. Her health and survival depend on donations and meager levies.

In all seriousness: we cannot live in a world informed by the corporate media only. We need independent, critical-thinking views and reporting through a financially-healthy community-based media like CHLY. Only you can prevent an extinction, by ponying up a tiny bit every month. Spend the 5 minutes to sign up for an automatic monthly donation here.

This is the file for The Sweet and Sour Variety Hour on Wednesday, October 6th 2021 airing at 8am PST on CHLY 101.7fm to 40 coastal communities

A link to good music

From Bandcamp:

With Trump’s first 100 days in office upon us, action must be taken to protect the causes that will come under threat from this administration.

Our First 100 Days seeks to aid in that protection. Joining together with artists and labels we will be releasing one rare, unreleased or exclusive song per day to you via Bandcamp.

For a minimum contribution of $30, supporters will be able to access all 100 songs in the project, including new music from Angel Olsen, How To Dress Well, Toro Y Moi, The Range and many more.

All profits raised from Our First 100 Days will go directly to organizations working on the front lines of climate, women’s rights, immigration and fairness.

The project was started in conjunction with Secretly Group and 30 Songs, 30 Days, and aims to raise funds and awareness for organizations supporting causes that are under threat by the proposed policies of a Trump administration. This project is produced with the help of Revolutions Per Minute, an organization that provides strategy and support for artists making change.

Epic Music Post

Facebook friend and notable Nanaimo saxophonist Cameron Wigmore makes a post that basically asks for his friends favourite music selections. I want to immortalize this valuable window of useful  information!

So here is a list which I plan to hyperlink completely.  I’ll be screening tunes for my radio show, so maybe I’ll even write my reviews of some music, too. In the meantime, I will begin attaching active links to the artist names. Of course, in this futuristic-pirate world, I suggest paying the artists some cash for their troubles. Somehow, someway. Hopefully by shelling out to see them play live, or by purchasing copies of their music.

The following is what Cam’s FBfriends suggested:
