• Spin Alley, how do you spin the story?

I was always “on the fence” about Jon Stewart. After watching the following video, I think I like him. He totally calls out these two CNN personalities for being rigged fakers, wasting the opportunity to inform the public of relevant matters. It’s pure gold. (more…)

  • Dairy & Gluten?

    Hi loves,
I’m curious about reasons to eliminate dairy and gluten from ones diet. I’m aware that for those who have celiac disease, gluten wears down nutrient receptors, so eventually if undiagnosed they suffer from malnutrition at a very young age. The case is that gluten does this in every body, but in a less harmful way. From what I understand (from someone who’s got celiac), these nutrient-absorbing receptors can be likened to little fingers in your tummy. For those with the disease, the fingers are delicate and brittle like chalk, while in everyone else, they are sturdy and steadfast like wood. Gluten grinds down on these fingers over time in everyone. Diary, I know nothing apart from the opinion that involving animals for human tastes is sometimes not preferred.  All I do know is how much I enjoy and even crave breads and many types of dairy products. So much so that I would forfeit the integrity of my sturdy nutrient receptors over time.

Do my tendencies to consume these items have something to do with the physical heritage of my body? My ancestors on both my parents side ate a lot of bread, and dairy. Why should I fight the urge? (no snark, genuinely curious). Thanks for reading, any input is appreciated.

    Love,

    Ashta

  • Film Buffing

Every Monday I get to sit on my ass and watch movies all day. Lucky duck, huh?

Lately I’ve been putting in all my favourite movies and listening to the commentary by those who made the films. My favourite today has been watching Best in Show with Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy. It’s just like watching it with them! Hilarious.  Anyway, biggest disappointment is finding out there isn’t any commentary on To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar. It’s a guilty pleasure of mine. Here’s the opening scene featuring the dynamic stylings of madames Salt n Pepa. Enjoy.

  • What you aren’t told about Iceland

What you aren’t told about Iceland

Yes, yes. We all know that Greenland is all ice, and Iceland is all green. But Iceland has also been kicking some serious ass. It’s the most successful revolution not covered in mainstream news. (more…)

  • Sacred Economics, Surviving Progress & Forbidden Fruit

Documentaries. A medium that serves to educate, entertain, and stimulate. So many of the topics I enjoy learning about are often entirely connected. My own fascination and thirst for this stuff fuels my need for sharing them with you now. Every day I come across information that I want to share.

Last week at Film Buff, I watched a new documentary called Surviving Progress. The film explored what that word means in every way. In the film, David Suzuki identifies economic externalities as “nuts”. Here’s that clip:

It’s a good movie, I recommend exploring what the word “progress” means in the context it is so often used.

Now here’s a short doc (12 mins) that does an overview of global economics and it’s relationship to the planet’s dominant species, the human being. This guy makes a lot of good points.

I recommend picking up the book Sacred Economics from a local book shop in your area, or visit here to pay whatever you want to get a digital version.

A subject that holds me captive in thorough fascination every time I begin to learn about it is mycology. Paul Stamets is coming out with a 3D documentary, and here is a clip from that:

If this is your first time hearing about Stamets and his work, I recommend this classic gem:
