    New pics

Thanks to Google for allowing me to use their servers to house all of my gigantic photo memories. May they remain as embedded in your eternal hardware memory as they are in mine.

Check out the tab at the top of this page called “photo albums”. I’ve updated August

  • Kicked off facebook

Seems that I am permanently locked out of my “work facebook” account RaDio Ashta. With that goes access to my page Ashta.ca  Facebook Site Governance has asked for a copy of my government issued identification. This is interesting….

A friend commented that perhaps it was because of something politically incorrect that  I posted. To which I replied:

I post politically incorrect stuff on a regular basis. My most recent post was a question about UFO’s in our area. According to facebook, the reason I’m locked out is that Radio Ashta is not my real name.

Not only that, but now the following appears in place of every private message I ever sent

This message is no longer available because it was identified as abusive or marked as spam.

Many others don’t use their real name. Why doesn’t facebook make them change their names after uploading a picture of their ID? I won’t be complying, because there already exists a different facebook account with my real name that I created in 2006. Good lord, that was 8 years ago! I’ve been a slave to this damn website for 8 years?! Perhaps it’s time to kick the habit for good.  It’s pretty convenient that by not complying, it appears RaDio Ashta is gone forever. There’s no awful “delete everything” process or late-night re-activation relapses.

If you “like” my Ashta.ca page, you’ll notice it simply won’t be updated anymore. This will force me to update things on my website more often, I suppose.

So check back whenever you feel like it 🙂

  • Abundance

A few times in the past couple days I have been giddy with the abundance  that surrounds me.

It’s the time of year where I live that many wonderful things to eat spontaneously appear…all for free. Sugary nectar figs drip off tree branches, blackberries literally spilling over every fence, too many plums and apples to know what to do with.

I’ve been making kale chips that are so addictive that Pat and I pretty much ate them as fast as I could turn them out of the oven. All it takes is a trip into the backyard and I can fill a huge bowl of kale to shake up with oil and salt.  AS MUCH AS I COULD POSSIBLY EVER WANT.

This concept reminds me of my fortune and the feeling that resonates within me as my hand moves over thousands of plump delicious sugar-bombs is unbound gratitude.

Tomorrow is market day which means the farmers bounty arrives neatly for our selection. The diversity of flavours is marveling.

In our yard, the main crop this year will be tomatoes. I’ve planted about 12 plants this year from seed started in my guest-bedroom and every one of them is thriving! I see the tidy bunches of green nutrient-capsules and cannot guess at how many pounds I will be able to work with.

    This food

    Freeze the berries

    Stew the apples for canning

Grate the zucchini and portion for freezing

Pit the cherries and drown them in brandy

Dry those figs that have somehow been saved from our gaping maws

I love this time of year. It’s not often we have not only everything we need, but then some.

  • Paris bans cars and makes all transit free

Know what’s amazing? The air quality in Paris has been so poor that it’s implications are mediated by making all buses and trains free, and by banning single passenger vehicles.

It’s not the first time a large European city has taken the measure, and granted it’s always only for a few days at a time- but nonetheless the tactic is a reminder that HEY! Single passenger vehicles really aren’t the only damn way to get around! There is such thing as mass transit, and we all better get used to using it on the regular.

According to BBC Europe, this happened a few months ago in Paris:
Conditions were at maximum extreme for so many days in a row, that officials decided to implement a three-day ban on 50% of cars on the road. On day one, vehicles with even  registration numbers were to be not driven. On the second day, odd numbers were banned, and so on. Every bus and train was free for the riding, and anyone caught driving their banned car would be fined thirty bucks at the many roadblocks.  Also, exempted  vehicles with less than 3 people would be fined.

This tactic has been implemented in Belgium, too. A place that has completely banned all Coca Cola products, reminding us all that there are still places on earth that give half a shit about their citizens.
